![]() It still looks pretty weapon-like, but a bit like a blackthorn if you do not closely look. I have played with the CS African Walking Stick, and it can be made less lethal looking but only with the kind of work that someone as OC as myself would do to perfect a walking stick. The combination seems guaranteed to disintegrate, as many here have testified. The CS Blackthorn apparently has a styrene head - brittle, attached to a polypro shaft -which does not accept glue readily. Wouldn't be nice if they did something like the now extinct pistol grip in Micarta but did not promote it as a weapon? They also show three men standing on the shaft, which would seem to make it pretty nearly indestructable under normal conditions. I doubt that difference would help a legal defense. I have seen film loops of the owner of CS breaking up cinder blocks with the City Stick, although admittedly using the steel head. It is now so valuable I leave it home! Similar ones I see in blackthorne run well over $300!Ĭlick to expand.Check out the internet and the CS website. I have a great looking stick from the defunct Uncle Sam Umbrella shop in NYC that looks like blackthorne (I think it is some kind of ironwood, they said it was from Scotland) and is HEAVY, knotted with a global head. I do question the Cold Steel knobkerry as looking rather lethal.which might be good in some quarters, but questionable in some urban areas like NYC in these paranoid times as at least one friend discovered (Bin Laden is terrorizing the world with sticks?). It would be practical, indestructable and legit looking. I have to wonder why Cold Steel does not re-engineer the Blackthorne or even produce a simple, heavy crooked polypro cane. I love my heavy crooked hickory canes, which have the advantage of looking like a standard cane, but am attracted to the polypro concept. Image borrowed from walking Ĭlick to expand.Yes, I have given up on the Cold Steel Blackthorn, despite its attractive appearance because of stories like these. He was not impressed when he saw how they turned and hightailed it out, though he did say they ran pretty well for wearing those huge army boots. They were trying to strong arm my nephew into joining their group at a carnival when I came looking for him. So far I have used it on several dogs, and two skinheads who wisely backed down. I took some adhoc classes from an older Irish gentlemen who knew Irish Stick fighting, it is a wicked little art. When I no longer needed it, I had gotten the habit of using it and still use it to this day. It is the root knob and root of the Blackthorn bush and it makes a very handsome and wicked walking stick. The Irish simply made the shaft longer and turned them into walking sticks, cannot ban walking sticks ya know. ![]() The English when they took over Ireland were having issues being beaned by them, so they banned them. It is an outgrowth of the old Irish sheleghleigh (sp). I injured my knee 10 years ago and I had to use a walking stick for a while, so I picked up a Irish Blackthorn Walking Stick.
